JINDAL GLOBAL LAW SCHOOL
Overview
Located in the National Capital Region, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) is probably the most promising private law school in the legal education scene in India. It was founded only recently, in 2009, with the aim of providing high quality, international-standard legal education in India at a fraction of the fees one would pay abroad.







Faculty
JGLS probably has the best faculty amongst all law schools across India by far. The newly appointed faculty members have outstanding academic records and have educational qualifications from universities and law schools in India and around the world including Harvard Law School, Columbia Law School, Stanford Law School, Yale Law School, New York University School of Law, and Northeastern University School of Law in the USA, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), University of London and University of Nottingham in the UK, Monash University in Australia, University of Hamburg in Germany, Dalhousie University, Queen’s University and University of Toronto in Canada, National Law School of India University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Madras, Indian Law Institute and University of Delhi in India.
Courses Offered
JGLS offers the following programmes, with options for specialization in the LL.M.
- Five-Year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Programme
- Five-Year B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Programme
- Three-Year LL.B. Programme
- One-Year LL.M. Programme
A unique course offered additionally is a double degree (B.A. /B.B.A. LL.B)+J.D. which allows students to essentially get a chance to practice in the U.S.A., if they wish to do so. This has been made possible through the MoU’s, which have so far been signed with the University of Indiana, Bloomington and University of Arizona.
Placements
Jindal Global Law School’s (JGLS) Sonepat debut 5-year-LLB class secured 57 jobs for its 83 graduates, including 12 Big Six law firm jobs.
The Sonepat law school’s recruitment performance came right behind top national law schools NLSIU Bangalore, Nalsar Hyderabad, NUJS Kolkata and NLU Delhi in Legally India’s new ranking system for law schools based on assigning scores to jobs based on pay and general perception of desirability by students and recruitment committees.
Exchange programmes
JGLS has carved out successful student exchange programes with law schools around the world, which essentially gives students the chance to study abroad for a semester. The list of the law schools includes Cornell Law School, Ithaca, Michigan Law School, Indiana University Bloomington, Maurer School of Law, USA Temmple University Beasley School of Law, Philadelphia, USA, etc., to name a few.
Admission and scholarship
Students for admission to the five year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), three year LL.B. and a one year LL.M. programmes at JGLS are selected on the basis of their performance in the Law School Admission Test—India (LSAT— India). LSAT—India is an entrance test designed by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), USA and is conducted by Pearson VUE, LSAC’s affiliate in India.
JGLS claims that over 50% of its students receive some sort of scholarship, studentship or concessions. These are awarded based on the student’s LSAT-India score. Additionally, students are required to fill an online scholarship form, which includes an essay, in order to be eligible for the scholarship.
