NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY DELHI
HISTORY
NLU-D was established in 2008 by Act No. 1 of 2008 of NCT Delhi in the National Capital Territory of Delhi with the initiative of the High Court of Delhi under the leadership of Prof. (Dr). Ranbir Singh (also the Founder-Director/Vice-Chancellor of Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad). Dr. Ranbir Singh is known to be an expert in providing that specific launch-pad to those new National Law Schools, which leads them to emerge as one of the most sought after law schools in the nation. The first Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh used to be the Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. He was approached by members of the Delhi High Court to set up a world class law school in the country’s capital with substantial funding and cutting edge facilities. It was inaugurated by the erstwhile President of India, Pratibha Patil.
PRESENT FORM
As it is known to all that currently, the college is recognized as one of the most reputed in South Asia. The university has carved a niche for itself with several strong academic collaborations, its persistence in hiring dynamic faculty, its various interdisciplinary research projects along with its domination in international moot court competitions. The college’s reputation outside of legal circles has also been solidified after its domination of the national debating circuit.
INFRASTRUCTURE



AUDITORIUM & SEMINAR ROOM


The university has a fully air-conditioned auditorium with a huge sitting capacity. Multiple seminar rooms are also being used for ancillary purposes, primarily being the venues for the variety of conferences hosted by the University throughout the year. It is a matter of extremely happiness for all the students there at the varsity that the internet WiFi facility is available for video conferencing facilities and various other educational purposes. Many national and international seminars conducted by eminent jurists, retired justices and bureaucrats are held in campus giving it edge over top law colleges in India, this dynamism in approach and innovative in outlook, the NLU-D aspires to be known as a University with focus on research.
Justice T.P.S. Chawla Library

For a law student, a library is one the most desirable and time spending place. How will it be for him, if he has an access to the Justice T.P.S. Chawla Library of the NLU-D? This library has a state-of-the-art, easily accessible library building, with three floors and an immense seating capacity. The library is named after Hon’ble Justice T.P.S Chawla of the High Court of Delhi who contributed significantly to the development of the library by donating his personal collection of rare volumes to it. The collection comprises over 41,000 documents, including monographs, commentaries, textbooks, reference books and loose leaf material on various subjects, such as Jurisprudence, Judicial Process, Constitutional law, Intellectual Property, Public International Law, Environmental Law etc.
The reception of the library is preceded by a waiting room adorning a picture of the Late Justice TPS Chawla. Of note in the library is the IT zone consisting of personal computers equipped for use by the students, the laptop bays for usage and the several moot court research labs dotted around for better research facilities.
ACADEMICS
The University imparts instruction through lectures, seminars and tutorials. Study material is distributed for each course and forms the basis of class discussion and interactive learning so that students remain engaged. Moreover, there is constant dialogue in class on contemporary issues pertinent to the curriculum. Each course also includes a project assignment to develop research, analysis and writing skills. Some courses are taught collaboratively so that the available expertise is optimally used and the education is interdisciplinary. Simulated settings such as courtroom exercises and maximize participation and develop professional skills. The University also has the advantage of inviting sitting and retired judges from the Supreme Court and High Court, leading lawyers and academicians, and retired judicial officers, for lectures, seminars and discussions with students and faculty.
MOOT COURT COMPETITIONS

The University organizes the Indian Pre-Moot of the Willem C. Vis Moot along with the International Chamber of Commerce,Paris. The Indian Pre-Moot has been recognised as South Asia’s biggest Pre-Moot, hosting numerous international teams from across the world. The University had entered into MoU with National University of Singapore, Singapore International Arbitration Centre and Kaden Borris Partners, Lawyers, Gurgaon annually host and conduct the IICLAM moot competition. It also organized its flagship moot, the All India Corporate Law Moot Court Competition along with hosting the South Asia rounds of the Price Moot.
The University has gained widespread global coverage after its domination in international moot court competitions. Latest achievements include being the first Indian team to win the 2014 International Criminal Court Moot and the 23rd Manfred Lachs International Space Law Moot. It won the 6th Oxford Monroe E. Price International Media Law Moot Court Competition as well as the 11th Hong Kong Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot during the 2012-13 season, along with winning the 5th LawAsia Moot in 2010. The University has won the Asia-Pacific rounds of the 2013 edition of Manfred Lachs International Space Law Moot. Students have also won the prestigious Best Speaker nomination at the Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court. Further achievements include the Runners Up trophy at the Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot. The University has also consistently performed well at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, breaking regularly with good speaker citations. It has also consistently dominated the North India rounds of the competition.
