- Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Maldives for establishment of passenger and cargo services by sea, which was signed on 8 June, 2019 during the visit of Indian Prime Minister to Maldives. It will pave way for ferry services between Maldives and Kerala by Connecting Kochi with Male & Kulhudhuffushi in Maldives by Sea route.
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Pradhan Mantri Karam Yogi Maandhan Scheme under which Pension benefits to about three crore retail traders and small shopkeepers with annual turnover less than Rs. 1.5 crore will be provided. Apart from that, among other measures related to the MSMEs, Rs. 350 crore allocated for FY 2019-20 for 2% interest subvention (on fresh or incremental loans) to all GST-registered MSMEs, under the Interest Subvention Scheme for MSMEs.
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that New Jal Shakti Mantralaya is set up to look at the management of our water resources and water supply in an integrated and holistic manner. Under this ministry, Jal Jeevan Mission to achieve Har Ghar Jal (piped water supply) to all rural households by 2024. Its objective will be focus on integrated demand and supply side management of water at the local level.
- Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian prepared Economic Survey 2019 with the theme “shifting of gears”. It calls for transforming from ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ to ‘BADLAV’; from ‘Swachh Bharat’ to ‘Sundar Bharat’. Sustained real GDP growth rate of 8 percent is needed for a USD 5 trillion economy by 2024-25. Virtuous Cycle of savings, investment and exports supported by a favorable demographic phase is required for sustainable growth.
- The JD(S)-Congress government in Karnataka plunged into a crisis on June 6 after 13 MLAs (9 of the Congress and 3 of the JD(S)) of the alliance submitting their resignation to the Speaker. The ruling coalition, which has strength of 118 in the 224-member Assembly, faces the risk of losing majority if the resignations are accepted.
- Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju has informed that central government is going to set-up three Sports Centre of Excellence in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. Three centre of excellence will be for Martial Arts, Weight Lifting and Boxing with a capacity of 100 sportspersons with residential facility.
- Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with IBM India Private Limited (Indian subsidiary of IBM) for undertaking a pilot study to utilise Artificial Intelligence (AI) and weather technology solutions in agriculture in selected pilot districts. The pilot study will be conducted for Kharif crop season 2019.
