- The “Accidental and Suicidal Deaths in India report” for the year 2016 has been released by the National Crime Records Bureau on 8th November, 2019. As per the report, around 8,684 deaths occurred due to natural forces and around 4,09,537 persons died in accidental deaths in 2016. Out of all the accidental and suicidal deaths, 43.4% was due to traffic accidents. The number of farmers who committed suicides reduced to 11,379 in 2016 from 12,360 in 2014 and 12,602 in 2015. The highest number of farmer’s suicides was recorded in Maharashtra. The suicide rate per lakh population in the cities reduced from 10.6 in 2015 to 10.3 in 2016.
- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is going on a three-day visit to Netherlands from 9th November, 2019. He will hold comprehensive discussion on bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest during this visit. He will also interact with members of the foreign affairs committee of the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament and Dutch dignitaries across the political spectrum.
- Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javedkar inaugurated the Light and Sound show depicting life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev in Amritsar on 8th November, 2019. The show will be organised daily till November 12th. Earlier, Javadekar and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated a multimedia exhibition on Guru Nanak Dev’s life and teachings at Sultanpur Lodhi.
- Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi will release the Assamese version of the “Courts of India: Past to Present” in Guwahati on 10th November, 2019. The book is a compilation of glimpses into the rich and complex history of the courts and judicial institutions of India, right from ancient times to the modern day in 2016.
- The Union Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel Scrap Recycling Policy on 8th November, 2019. The policy aims to reduce imports, conserve resources and save energy. The National Steel Policy 2017 (NSP-2017) aims to develop a globally competitive steel industry by creating 300 Million TPA Steel production capacity by 2030 with a contribution of 35% to 40% from EAF/IF route.
- The Indian Air Force (IAF) launched the multiplayer version of its interactive mobile game named ‘Indian Air Force – A Cut Above’. The single-player version of the game was first launched by the then Chief of Air Staff (COAS), B S Dhanoa, on 31st May, 2019. The game lets users experience the thrill of flying a combat aircraft.
- The 11th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held on 13th November, 2019 in Brazil under the theme ‘Economic Growth for an Innovative Future’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Brazil from 13th November to 14th November to attend the annual summit of BRICS. Formed in 2006, the BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Brazil is the current chair of BRICS.
- The 2019 RBS Earth Heroes Awards (REHA) winners have been announced by RBS India, the innovation and operations hub of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), for the significant role in combating climate change. The theme for the 9th edition of the awards was ‘Climate Change’. REHA were institutionalised in association with the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) in 2011 to provide a national platform to those individuals and institutions that have espoused and undertaken actions to protect the endangered forests, wetlands and other natural ecosystems.
