- Union Minister of Science & Technology Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the National Centre for Clean Coal Research and Development (NCCCR&D) by Department of Science & Technology (DST) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru with an aim to address opportunities and challenges in the development of clean coal technologies.
- After completing the official procedure for renaming Hyderabad-Karnataka region, Chief Minister of Karnataka B.S. Yediyurappa made the official proclamation to rename the region as Kalyana Karnataka. The Hyderabad-Karnataka region comprises six north-eastern districts of Karnataka: Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Ballari, Yadgir and Raichur. He also announced that a separate secretariat would be set up for the development of Kalyana Karnataka, through which funds would be released for development work.
- Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) organised the 5th International Ramayan Festival from 17th to 19th September, 2019 in New Delhi. The ICCR was founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who was independent India’s first Education Minister. The ICCR was established with the vision of propagating Indian culture and its values to the whole world and organizing the Ramayan festival is a way to realize this vision.
- Head of the Group of Ministers of GST Network (GSTN) Sushil Kumar Modi announced the GSTN’s decision to make Aadhaar authentication or physical verification mandatory for new dealers from January 2020, so as to check malpractices in GST. Mr. Modi is the Chief Minister of Bihar. GSTN has been jointly registered by the Central and State Governments as a non-profit Company under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
- Spain won its second FIBA basketball World Cup title after defeating Argentina with 95-75 in the final held at Wukesong Arena in Beijing, China. The Spaniards won their first basketball World Cup title in 2006 in Japan. Founded in Geneva in 1932, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is an association of national organizations, which governs the sport of basketball worldwide.
- India’s ‘Yogi of the Racetrack,’ a Union Ministry of Tourism’s short promotional film on Yoga, won the ‘Best Video’ award in the Asia & Pacific Region in the UNWTO Tourism Video Competition 2019 during the 23rd General Assembly Session of the UNWTO in St. Petersburg, Russia on September 12, 2019. Chile won the award for ‘Exceptional stories of sustainable tourism’.
- India and Slovenia signed seven MoUs and agreements in the presence of President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Slovenian President Borut Pahor. President Ram Nath Kovind is on the final leg of his visit to Iceland, Switzerland and Slovenia. The seven agreements are programmes of cooperation in the fields of River Rejuvenation (Clean Ganga Mission), Culture, Investment, Science & Technology, Sports and Standards.
