- According to a study conducted by Randstad Employer Brand Research (REBR), e-commerce player Amazon India has been rated as India’s most ‘attractive employer brand, followed by Microsoft India which emerged as the runner-up. The Randstad research for year 2019 covered 75% of global economy with 32 participating countries and over 2 lakh respondents worldwide.
- Riva Ganguli Das, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh visited the ongoing construction of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Bridge 1 (Feni Bridge) and land port (Ramgarh Land Port) in Khagrachhari, Bangladesh. The Feni Bridge also known as Maitree Setu, is a bridge being constructed over Feni River since 2017. Land port will serve as a link between India and the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.
- The CBI has booked lawyer Anand Grover and his Mumbai-based voluntary organisation, Lawyers Collective, for alleged violation of rules in receiving foreign aid. According to the complaint, Lawyers Collective had allegedly received foreign aid worth over 32 crore rupees between 2006-07 and 2014-15 and violated the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
- Pakistan military appointed Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed as the new Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the military-led powerful spy agency, who will succeed Lieutenant General Asim Munir. DG ISI is answerable only to the Army chief and not Prime Minister. ISI was founded in 1948 as an independent unit to strengthen Pakistan’s intelligence network.
- United Nations has released its World Population Prospects 2019 report that explained that India is expected to show the highest population increase between now and 2050 by adding nearly add nearly 273 million people, overtaking China as the world’s most populous country, by around 2027. In all, the population of sub-Saharan Africa is expected to practically double by 2050.
- In the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings announced ahead of the 2019 Wimbledon Championships to be held in Wimbledon, London, Naomi Osaka of Japan and Novak Djokovic of Serbia continue to be as World Number 1. WTA was founded in 1973 by Billie Jean King and ATP was founded in September 1972 by Jack Kramer, Donald Dell, and Cliff Drysdale.
- The 44th edition of Matri Shree Media Awards was presented to 29 journalists from both print and electronic media for their contribution towards journalism in New Dehi. The award was constituted during Emergency in India (1975). The 1st recipient of award was journalist Lala Jagat Narayan.
