- Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) have launched a 3 day special campaign called Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan in New Delhi from 17 to 19 July 2019. It is aimed at sensitizing and mobilising community for prevention and control of vector borne diseases (VBDs) such as Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria. As per the data compiled by the Health ministry, till 30th June, 2019 at least 8,058 positive dengue cases with 8 deaths, 14,404 chikungunya cases and till 31st May, 2019, 66,313 Malaria cases have been reported across country.
- Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a state-owned company of Israel, has signed a $50 million deal with India to supply complementary Naval MRSAM systems to Indian Navy and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders. As per the contract, IAI will provide a range of maintenance and other services for various sub-systems of IAI’s advanced MSRAM air defence system (ADS).
- Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) has released ‘Deeksharambh’, a University Grants Commission (UGC) Guide to Student Induction Program to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment and to help them build bonds with other students and faculty members. Headquartered in New Delhi, UGC is a statutory body set up by Union government in accordance to the UGC Act, 1956.
- Central Universities (Amendment) Bill 2019, for establishing a Central University and a Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh has been passed by the Parliament. The Bill seeks to amend the Central Universities Act, 2009, which establishes universities for teaching and research in various states. Establishment of a Central University and a Central Tribal University in the State of Andhra Pradesh is obligatory under Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
- Zimbabwe cricket has been suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with immediate effect after it breached the ICC Constitution by failing to provide free and democratic elections and ensuring that there is no government interference in its cricket administration. With this, Zimbabwe will be out of all ICC tournaments including the upcoming T20 World Cup.
- The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 124 teams in the various parts of the country to respond to any type of disaster emergency, natural or man-made. In view of monsoon season and as a part of proactive measures, 84 teams have been pre-positioned in 23 states at 71 locations as per the flood vulnerability profile of the states. 40 teams have been permanently deployed in 27 Regional Response Centres (RRCs) for prompt response to any eventuality.
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister, appointed Indian Foreign Service officer Vivek Kumar as the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19th July, 2019. Mr Kumar, a 2004 batch IFS officer, is currently working as the Director in the Prime Minister’s Office. He will succeed Sanjeev Kumar Singla.
