- The Union Cabinet on 21st November, 2019 approved the introduction of the Industrial Relations Code, 2019, which is the third code under labour reforms. The government wants to codify 44 central labour laws into four broad codes. The four codes include wage rates, social security, industrial relation, industrial security and labor welfare.
- The Counter Terrorism Table Top Exercise (CT-TTX), the first counter terrorism exercise among the Quad countries – India, Japan, US and Australia – was hosted by the National Investigation agency on 21st November and 22nd November, 2019. Quad Countries, the dialogue between the four countries, was initiated in 2007 by the Japanese President Shinzo Abe.
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of the National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa (NISR) in Leh as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 47.25 crore. It also approved creation of the post of director in Level-14 to oversee implementation of the project from the construction stage itself.
- President Ram Nath Kovind, the Supreme Commander of Indian Armed Forces, awarded the President’s Colour, the highest honour bestowed upon a military unit, to the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in recognition of the yeoman service rendered by the institution in training and shaping Indian Naval officers over the last 50 years at three different locations – Goa, Kochi and Ezhimala. The INA was first established at a temporary location at Kochi, Kerala in 1969.
- Around 1,51,417 deaths occurred in India due to road accidents in 2018, according to the report “Road Accidents in India, 2018” released by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on 20th November, 2019. The report says that the major reasons for road accidents were road environment, human errors and vehicle conditions. The number of road accidents have increased by 2.4% as compared to 2017. Around 48% of road crash deaths were of persons in the age group between 18 years and 35 years.
- The Government of India is going to expand the 3S (Smart Safety Surveillance) programme of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the country to make sure the vaccines distributed under the universal immunization programme are safe and also to optimize post-marketing surveillance of priority drugs. The WHO introduced the programme in India considering limited safety data on vaccines in the country.
- World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day is organized every year on the third Wednesday of November by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). Launched in 1997, the day aims to raise awareness and present new knowledge and novel therapeutic strategies for the COPD. The theme for this year is ‘All Together to End COPD’.
