- JATAN is a Virtual Museum software that has been developed by the Human Centres Design and Computing Group C-DAC, Pune, Maharashtra. It helps in digital preservation and providing online access to heritage information resources for education, research and tourism. Out of the 48 Archaeological Site Museums under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), only 2 museums, namely Velha Goa and Nagarjunakonda, have been digitised.
- Keshav Dutt, a two-time Olympic gold medal winning hockey player and Prasun Banerjee, Former India football captain have been selected for the Mohun Bagan Ratna Award 2019. The Mohun Bagan Ratna Award is presented to outstanding former players on Mohun Bagan Day (29th July), every year. The first recipient was former football captain Sailen Manna in 2001.
- The National Broadcasting Day is observed every year on 23rd July in India to commemorate the first ever radio broadcast in the country that went on air from the Bombay Station under a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company on 23rd July, 1927. The Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio on 8th June, 1936.
- The 113th birth anniversary of Chandra Shekhar Azad was observed in India on 23rd July, 2019. He was born as Chandra Shekhar Tiwari on 23rd July, 1906 in Bhambri village in Madhya Pradesh. Chandra Shekhar Azad is popularly known as ‘Azad’. He became extremely popular after the Kakori Rail Dacoity in 1925 and the assassination of policeman John Saunders in the year 1928. Azad trained Bhagat Singh and other young revolutionaries in underground activities. Azad died at Alfred Park in Allahabad, now Prayagraj, on 27th February 1931.
- The Lok Sabha passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019 which seeks to amend the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 to provide road safety. The provisions related to increasing penalties on traffic violations, addressing issues on third-party insurance, regulation of cab aggregators and road safety are proposed in the amendment. The bill also proposes a scheme to allow cashless treatment of victims of a road accident during the golden hour.
- Boris Johnson was elected as the Conservative Party leader and Britain’s new Prime Minister on 23rd July, 2019. The elections were held after Prime Minister Theresa May announced her resignation amid a mounting rebellion from within the party. Johnson has vowed that Britain will quit the European Union on the scheduled date of 31st October, even if it means leaving without a divorce deal.
- The Government has set a target for the installation of rooftop solar projects of 40,000 megawatt by 2022 in the country. Over 1700 megawatt of grid-connected rooftop systems has been installed in the country till 18th July, according to the New and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh. On an average, it is estimated that 1.5 million units per megawatt per year energy is generated from these solar rooftop plants.
