Delhi High Court Chief Justice D N Patel launched a new mobile application on 27th September, 2019 to make the services of the court digitally accessible to litigants and lawyers. The application provides the details of the status of the case, cause list and other access links to the court’s website. Advocates can apply for e-Inspection and gate passes using the app.
The United Nations Global Climate Action Award (UNGCAA) in the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ category was presented to Infosys, an IT major for “Infosys’ Journey to Carbon Neutrality”. Infosys is India’s second largest IT Company and is one of the first companies of its type to commit to carbon neutrality.
On the occasion of the 78th Foundation Day of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), President Ram Nath Kovind launched the first indigenous High-Temperature Fuel Cell System developed by CSIR under the ‘New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI)’. The 5.0 kW fuel cell system generates power in a green manner.
The Department of Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti, Government of Odisha in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) unveiled a mascot named ‘Tikki Mausi’ and launched a comprehensive state-level communication strategy to spread awareness about nutrition of children and women.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Delhi for cooperation in research, education and technology developments in science and other disciplines. It will also facilitate access to each other’s libraries and central research facilities.
The 23rd Malabar Exercise, the trilateral maritime exercise between navies of India, Japan and the US began off the coast of Japan. INS Sahyadri and INS Kiltan will participate from the Indian side. Malabar 2019 exercise seeks to further strengthen India-Japan-US naval cooperation and enhance interoperability, based on shared values and principles. It began in 1992 as a bilateral exercise between India and the United States and later, Japan became a permanent partner in 2015.
Right Livelihood Award 2019 winners are Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, Sahrawi human rights activist Aminatou Haidar, Chinese women’s rights lawyer Guo Jianmei, Hutukara Yanomami Association (Brazil) and its indigenous leader Davi Kopenawa. Established in 1980, the award honours and supports courageous people solving global problems. The award is also known as ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’ and is presented by the Swedish Right Livelihood Foundation.
