1. Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 16th December every year to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971 for the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Hence, Bangladesh celebrates its independence day on 16th December every year. On this occasion, the three army chiefs reached the war memorial in Delhi and paid tribute to the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the war. 
2. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu presented the President’s Colours to the Gujarat Police on 15th December, 2019. With this, Gujarat became the seventh state police force in India to be bestowed with the honour of the President’s Colours, also called as Nishaan. Earlier, it was awarded to states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Assam.
3. International Tea Day is observed every year on 16th December to draw global attention of governments and citizens to the impact of global tea trade on workers and growers and has been linked to requests for price supports and fair trade. The day is being celebrated since 2005 every year in tea producing nations such as India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Malaysia.
4. Toni-Ann Singh of Jamaica was crowned as Miss World 2019 at a beauty pageant held in London, United Kingdom. It’s the first time in history that black women hold the titles for Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss America, Miss Universe and Miss World. She was crowned by Mexico’s Vanessa Ponce de Leon, the winner of Miss World 2018. The runners up included Ophély Mézino from France and Suman Rao from India. It was the 69th edition of the contest and contestants from 120 countries competed for the title.
5. Haryana Police has adopted Trakea, a unique barcoding software to make forensic reports tamper-proof, which will ensure that the thousands of forensic reports that form the backbone of the criminal investigation system and subsequent trials in the courts of law are not tampered with. It ensures foolproof security of the samples collected from the scene of the crime and the forensic analysis reports.
6. Government of India invoked the Drug Price Control Order, 2013 for the first time to increase the prices of 21 medicines by 50% to ensure their availability. The drug price control order (DPCO) is an order issued by the government under the Essential Commodities Act, which enables it to fix the prices of some essential bulk drugs and their formulations.
7. The India Design Council (IDC) launched two initiatives – the Chartered Designs of India (CDI) and the Design Education Quality Mark (DEQM) in New Delhi on 12th December, 2019. It will help to address the five challenges of scale, quality of design, quality of education for design, raising the priority for design in industry and design for public purpose. The CDI is an institution that will establish and uphold the professional standards of design practice in India. 
8. The Parliament passed the International Financial Services Centres (IFSCs) Authority Bill, 2019 for setting up of a unified authority to regulate all financial services in the IFSCs in the country. An IFSC caters to customers outside the jurisdiction of the domestic economy. Such centres deal with flows of finance, financial products and services across borders.
