If you are reading this then you are either aspiring to be a lawyer or have a keen interest in the profession. To state the obvious, it is not easy being a lawyer, requires a lot of dedication, hard work and most importantly being proactive. If you diligently pursue these traits you will eliminate the chances of failure. Whether it is a 5 year or a 3 year LLB program, opportunities more or less are the same. It is important to crack your CLAT exam, as it is the stepping stone to establishing your career but the race does not end there. In today’s time, when the competition is fierce one always has to come with a way to make their LLB count. Staying on top would require you to slog but in the end it will be worth it.
Firstly it is important that during your first year of LLB try to get an internship that will give you the opportunity to work with good organisations, NGO’s, Law firms or courts. Internships will not only help you build experience but also narrow down the field you want to specialise in. Being in college is the best time to figure that out, as you can experiment all you want. Secondly to get an internship, you must do extensive research on the web, go through internship portals or even approach your college placement cell. Most NLU’s have placement cells that can help you get into good organisations. Lastly if you do get an internship, make sure to network, get to know people and give it your best at the internship. This way if you want to maybe pursue a full time career with the same organisation you can always come back. The more organisations you intern with during your LLB the more options you will have.
Given below are some of the portals for law internships:
- Internshala (http://internshala.com/ ) – This is one of the largest internship portals that can help you find law internship all over India.
- RSG India ( http://rsg-india.com/ ) – This portal is ideal to find contact details of Indian law firms that can be used for internship purposes.
There are always opportunities out there, but getting them is entirely up to you. If you maintain good grades/marks and persistently pursue your goals then nothing can pull you down.
