- India sends notice to Pak to amend 1960 Indus pact
India has said that it wants to modify the 62-year old Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan, citing what it called Pakistan’s “intransigence” in resolving disputes over the Kishenganga and Ratle hydropower projects, both in Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, The first hearing of the Pakistani case at the Permanent Court of Arbitrage against the projects at The Hague in the Netherlands began on Friday, with India boycotting the court process.
- Cheetah project to bring in 12 big cats from South Africa
India and South Africa signed a long-pending agreement to translocate 12 cheetahs to India, the Environment Ministry said in a statement on Friday. The cheetahs will be transported to India by February-end and reintroduced at the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, where eight such cats were brought from Namibia in September last year under a similar agreement.

- SEBI increased scrutiny of deals by the Adani Group
SEBI will also study a report by short-seller Hindenburg Research to add to its own ongoing initial investigation into the group’s foreign portfolio investors. The U.S. firm said it held short positions in the Indian group, accusing it of improper use of offshore tax havens and flagging concerns about high debt, leading to a massive sell-off of India- listed shares of the conglomerate’s companies.

Germany advanced to its fifth World Cup final, the first since 2010, with a last-gasp 4-3 win even as Australia’s wait to equal Pakistan’s four world titles continued. The Germans, seeking their third world title, will be up against defending champion Belgium, which was stretched to a shootout by Netherlands after the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time.
