- 1899- Birth of Kodandera Madappa Cariappa, Indian military officer and the first chief of staff of the Indian Army after independence
- 1933- The name Pakistan was coined by Choudhry Rahmat Ali and gradually accepted by Muslims in the Indian subcontinent, who use it to push for a separate Muslim country in South Asia.
- 1935- Iceland became the first country to legalize abortion
