Decision making is a key element for any paper and it begins just days before the paper, and is essentially called the ‘right frame of mind” for the paper. what is this “right frame of mind”? is it some meditative or yogic power, is it being mr cool, is it confidence, eh not (over) of it?
No the “right frame of mind” is not just one of these things. it can be either of these. or it can even mean nervousness, jitters, feeling of having forgotten everything, a deep pain in the pit of the stomach. all these feelings are just, valid and therefore allowed. since for some of you CLAT (and AILET) are papers deciding your future, this week can be an emotional upheavel, wrecking or even ravaging week. the “right frame of mind” then is how to deal with these havocs. so instead of telling you what to read or not read i’m telling you how to preserve what you’ve read and learnt by managing your emotions. let not your sanity, study, logical powers, reasoning skills drain out due to the jitters you feel. if you are a nervous wreck you
1) Make silly mistakes
2) Can burn out faster
3) Think slower
4) Give up easliy
Therefore, we need to prevent your nervous energy to have control over you. it needs to be limited to good use.Right amount of nervous energy helps you perform better and keeps you alert, but too much, as mentioned above, can be a bit much.
To control this let’s follow the points below
1) Don’t try to do new things now, the stage for experimentation is over. stick to methods that have worked for you, things learnt already.
2) Instead focus on your errors, a quick revision of where you’re going wrong will yield better results
3) Telling yourself or educating yourself of frequent errors will positively increase your marks
4) If you’re of a nervous temperament; any proctored testing at this stage is ill adviced. maybe you can just practice sections for your own testing. or just try out a technique to test speed without troubling yourself over marks
5) Any learning should be done through questions and tests. large volumes of learning may not have a recall value without association.
6) Going over previous papers is a better utilisation of time. will also help you in knowing if you’ve missed a concept or not
7) After studying some papers rationalise your workload. take out the most necessary things to do for all sections. only things you can handle or manage based on your capability. do those very well, rather than everything not so wel.for example, vocabulary in english should be done through mocks and previous papers to rationalise it; maybe the whole book is a bit much and not so pragmatic. similarly for GK; focus on the class sheets and the gk book.
8) Be with positive people:- parents, mentors and close friends.
9) Spend some quiet time with yourself, just collecting your thoughts.
10) Stay away from STUDS, you don’t need them at this stage and they bring no value or goodness to you. they may have done the whole syllabus thrice over, what is it to you? knowing that brings no value only depression. so chuck it.
11) Be at peace with yourself, conserve your rational thinking so that your brain works well on the exam days. criticise yourself later, right now motivate yourself.
12) Follow some discipline for sleep and food. adjust your clock around the exam timings. you should be well awake before the exam; at least 4 hours before. so sleep accordingly.
13) There is no formula for success or failure. so don’t fail before the exam by convincing your self that you’re no good.
You all are good, you all have been taught well, you all know everything. so just use it well. it will bear fruit. and the fruit will be sweet and please share it with me.
